The Cottage | Balmain

The Cottage Bar & Kitchen launches their new summer menu and we head into Balmain courtesy of Pendulum.

Located behind this bit of gated green is the cottage. It’s a victorianesque house that has been reworked to become this restaurant/bar. If you’re headed down this part of balmain, you’ll see lots of shops and then a bit of a break and then the cottage. Hard to miss really.

Looking out from the front patio. Balmain in the background. Its very pretty.

Front porch area and resident indie rock band Bad Pony.

The inside is country pubby and is intimately lit.

an eclectic selection of mirrors, frames and lampshade

grandma’s chaise on the farm – Love a nice wingback. Great for a group this area.

Suspended lights add to the outdoor ambience when the sun sets

Remember Me In The Morning’ made with fresh passion fruit, passion fruit vodka, licor 43, crème de peche, peach bitters, egg white, blood orange and lemon juice. Summer Squeeze’ made with fresh watermelon and basil with Tanqueray gin, crème de mure, watermelon liqueur, lemon juice, and ruby red grapefruit juice. Both delectable summer drinks. Gota to love a pretty straw.

Mum’s Apple Pie’ made with Ron Zacapa 23yr old dark rum, Batlow cloudy apple cider, lemon juice and apple pie syrup is clean, crisp and delicious.

Kingfish Ceviche with passion fruit dressing on a plantain chip. Nicely cured fish, fresh and tart.

Seared Scallops with rocket, fresh fruit vinaigrette and crispy prosciutto is as amazing to eat as it is to look at.

Staff at the Cottage are friendly and adds to the vibe

Excellent salt and pepper squid. I got to say, second place now that’s a bar that serves great salt pepper squid thats even better eating that some yumcha places.

Pumpkin Mousse with goats cheese, pickled pumpkin and pepitas is a nice starter.

Oven Roasted Chicken with rice pilaf, dried fruit, apricot yoghurt and pistachio crumbs. Nicely cooked chicken, still tender and a good rice pilaf.

Arancini with lemon, mint, pea and haloumi. Some of the best versions of an arancini ball we’ve had. Its delicious.

The fairground dessert plate is pretty amazing to look at and will make you go wow.

Outdoor dining and drinking.

The Cottage Bar & Kitchen is a great looking and wholely appealing venue that does great food. Chef Ellen Young’s new menu is a nice mix of light summer eats, finger foods and more susbtantial eats. They also have a nice woodfired pizza oven in the cottage, and we can’t wait to head back and get some pizzas here. For something a little different and a bit homey, head over to balmain (surprisingly easy to get to from the city) and check this out.
