Australian Hotel | Rocks

The Australian is where aussies come to play twoup on anzac day (you should try it), and its a grand old heritage building located at the high end of the rocks. Its decidedly old school aussie pub that serves only australian beers (It is called the australian) so you can get your boags/blonde and the muddy granny cider and other drinks from brewers like little creatures. Its a fairly accessible location and well worth a visit if only to say you’ve been to the Australian. The Australian is also incidentally where a group of architects who just passed their registration exam came to celebrate. I came to support and eat.

kerb appeal. Gourmet Pizzas, you don’t say.


The beer counter + beer fridge. Its a pub. When I was ordering, the bartender told some guy “sorry we don’t have that beer, you can get it anywhere else, why order that here?”. Guy asked for a heineken. Made me smile.


yup. Come here to eat the Animals on Australia’s Coat of arms. Kangeroo and Emu.


Tiger Prawn Pizza. $26ish. This was probably the best pizza they had tonight. Not the hugest thing but the star ingredient were sizable plump tiger prawns and you can taste its fresh. My favourite this evening. 8/10 We ordered 2 of these.


Kangeroo Pizza. Salty and beefy. Not as good, and had a weird savouriness/seasoning. 6/10

Marherita pizza. Like a stodgy pizza you pick up at those greek gyro places. Not good at all. 3/10
Probably not the best place to grab dinner but as a pubby watering hole, you can’t go wrong with the Australian. The variety of Australian Brew on offer is great and the wait staff were all friendly.


Tourist? Its essential.
