PHO 88 | Newtown

PHO 88. Not sure why its 88 because its located at 343 King street and if I recall right, it used to be a really nice coffee place. Good thing then that PHO 88 is quite a good vietnamese restaurant which does an incredible Large bowl of Pho. Quite good for when you’re craving a lot of the good stuff.

pho88-3

The vietnamese love their red don’t they ;)

pho88-2

Coconuts in the display cabinets.

pho88-9

Various eats, a look at their menu. They also do coffees like a cafe.

pho88-5

Pho. That’s quite a selection and this probably is the 15th bowl of Pho I’ve ever eaten. Pho with wonton sounds kind of wrong to me.

pho88-4

Huge platter of sprouts, lemon, chilli and thai basil. Josh asked for mo’ chilli and they brought out alot of cut thai chilli (fiery).

pho88-6

Beef Bun with vermicelli. Its fresh eating once you sprinkle over the sauce.

pho88-7

Pho Ga (Chicken).

pho88-8

Pho beef – one regular sized and one large. The phone is there for scale. The large is quite large. Beef slivers just getting cooked by the stock so still somewhat pink and quite tender.

Vietnamese food really isn’t something J+crew eat a lot of, so on the occasion that we do hit a vietnamese joint, its always delightful to find that the dishes are fresh, clean and delicious. I can’t quite say what makes a good PHO but this, along with the one at PHO 236 are nice. PHO 88 might have a slight edge for Newtown Pho as their stock is slightly less sweet. I’ll be adding PHO 88 to my go-tos in Newtown now.

88 <— this is a capture of the urban spoon review icon below. This amused me. So, Pho 88, gets 88% and its from 88 votes. As of the time of this review. Fancy that.
